About Caritas
Our Mission
Caritas Inc. treats substance abusers and their families through residential and outpatient programs. We provide individualized treatment and services to clients and their families with sensitivity toward cultural diversity. As an agency, Caritas Inc. is committed to being a leader in setting standards and educating the community on prevention, intervention and treatment of substance abuse.
Our Vision
Caritas Inc. strives to reduce the number of individuals suffering from substance abuse. Caritas’ residential and outpatient programs will provide substance abusers and their families a place of welcome in which they are treated with dignity and respect. We will be proactive, innovative and flexible in choosing programs that best serve our clients and their families.
History of Caritas
The Caritas organization was formed in 1971 by Susan D. Wallace in response to a need for effective treatment services for adolescents. Caritas House was the first residential substance abuse treatment program for teenage girls in the United States and still exists as the sole treatment facility for teenage girls in RI.
Over the years, Caritas grew to meet the demand for services. A residential program for adolescent boys, Corkery House, opened in 1994. Eastman House, an existing residential facility for adult women joined the organization in 1998. And in 1999, outpatient programs and prevention programs were added to the list of services conducted by Caritas.
Today, Caritas offers an array of treatment and prevention programs geared toward teenagers, women and their families. Please feel free to browse this website to learn more about Caritas.
